NYIRAGONGO, EXPEDITION SUR UN LAC DE LAVE
September 2011
The GORISK Scientific Network organized an 11-days expedition on top of Nyiragongo, in order to study its lava lake. Seismometers, tiltmeter, CO2 , radon and T° sensors, coupled with a stereographic time-lapse camera system were installed to detect parameters that translate the permanent eruptive activity in the Nyiragongo main crater.
During the expedition, a documentary was filmed by journalists from the RTBF (Belgian public TV channel) and was realized thanks to the support of the FNR-Luxembourg. This documentary was first broadcast on June 7th 2012 on “La Une”, in Belgum. Next it was broadcast several times on other RTBF channels, on the international channel TV5-Monde and on the Luxembourgish TV channel .DOK. The documentary is also used by the scientists of the expedition during public conferences in Belgium and Luxembourg (can be organized on request).
The documentary on this breathtaking expedition is available on youtube. Enjoy it!
